If you plan to audition to become a Disney Princess, you will need to be anywhere between 5’4’’ and 5’7″.  So whether you want to portray Snow White, Princess Tiana, Mulan or Cinderella, it’s important to know that if you are shorter than 5’4” or taller than 5’7”, it’s going to be difficult to proceed far in the audition stage—if you even make it into the audition process.

On top of that, there are of course Disney character body requirements too.  We aren’t going to cover that too much today, but just know that (at least as of now), there are no plus size princesses at the Disney parks.  On top of that, even if you look exactly like Princess Jasmine, and you sound exactly like Princess Jasmine, and you’ve got the exact mannerisms of Princess Jasmine down perfectly—you will still be rejected if your body (or even your chest size) is too big.  This is how much Disney cares about the in parks princesses matching the physical appearance of their cartoon counterparts.

How to Prepare to Be a Disney Princess

If you are looking to be a Disney Princess, you are considered a Disney character lookalike and will spend most of your time doing meet and greets, dancing, singing, and truly acting like the character you have been hired to be. Disney princesses are “face characters,” so along with being the right height, you will need to meet the required weight and have features that make you look more like the princess you are playing!

If you plan to audition to be one of the princesses, be sure to bring the charm and charisma that embodies the princess you want to become, because second to height, this is what will set you apart to be cast the role compared to the other applicants. The best way to prepare before your audition is to watch the movie your princess stars in, because you will be expected to know everything about who they are, what they do, and where they are from! This will go a long way in your audition.

Disney Parks Character Height Requirements for Fairies

Now, maybe you don’t have as much interest in being a Disney princess.  Perhaps instead, you’d like to portray a Disney fairy—maybe because those are your favorite Disney characters, or perhaps because you’re just a shorter person.

Well, thankfully, if you are a shorter person, you can play characters like Tinkerbell.  That’s because the height requirements for fairies is between 4’11” and 5’1”.  So just like we discussed when talking about the height requirements for princesses above, if you happen to be shorter than 4’11” or taller than 5’1”, it’s highly unlikely you will be cast to play a fairy character in the parks. You will probably be disqualified from the process because Disney prefers having a firm height consistency when it come to how tall their characters appear inside the parks.

Height Requirements for Mickey and Minnie Mouse

Now, if you want to portray Mickey or Minnie Mouse, then you might be a bit surprised at the height requirements here.  Despite Mickey and Minnie being the crown jewel of characters at the parks, the height requirements are between 4’11” and 5’1”.  And oddly enough, because the height ranges are quite short, both Mickey and Minnie tend to be portrayed by female cast members.

Height Requirements for Star Wars Characters

If you plan to audition to become a Star Wars character, the height requirements can vary quite drastically.  Ewoks, for example, are going to be quite short, while a cast member tasked with portraying Chewbacca is going to need to be very tall.

Here is a list of a small handful of height requirement for key Star Wars characters

  1. Darth Vader — Between roughly 6’2” and 6’4”
  2. Kylo Ren — Between roughly 6’2” and 6’4”
  3. Chewbacca — Between roughly 6’2” and 6’4” (Chewbacca was of course bigger on screen and even taller at one time in the parks, but he has since been scaled down a little bit).

Reasons for Height Requirements

Becoming a Disney character at one of the many parks is something that die-hard Disney park fans dream about doing at least once in their lives. However, if you dream of working as one of the the most famous characters, there are many strict requirements that need to be met to be hired by the company. One of the biggest requirements you will need to meet to become a Disney character, is the necessary height requirement for the character you want to be and are auditioning for.

The reason these requirements are in place is to ensure no child (or adult) is left thinking there is more than one Mickey Mouse or Princess Jasmine in all of Walt Disney World. If one day you are in Magic Kingdom and see a petite Jasmine that stands as high as your chin, and the next day see her in Epcot (like the photo above) and she is now much taller than you, it may raise some eyebrows and leave you questioning what in the world is going on behind the scenes.

Luckily, if you do decide to apply to be one of the many Disney characters, the height requirements are listed in the job description and also summarized here so you are not left applying to positions you are not qualified for!
