Not True? – Did Disney Fire Rachel Zegler from ‘Snow White?’

If you’re a Disney fan like me (and I know you are!), there there’s a good chance you’ve heard about Rachel Zegler and Disney’s Snow White movie controversy.  But now, rumors are swirling that Rachel Zegler has been fired from the role (with a recast coming soon).  So, did Disney really fire Rachel Zegler from “Snow White,” or is this rumor all a bunch of nonsense?

Well, let’s find out!

Did Disney Fire Rachel Zegler from Snow White?

Well, no, Disney did not fire Rachel Zegler from the “Snow White” remake—at least not yet.  Despite the widespread news and rumor about this story, Disney has not released any statement regarding this alleged story, nor have there been any reports of Rachel’s firing from prominent and respected news sites like Deadline, The Hollywood Reporter, or Variety.

If you’re not hearing the news being broken by them (who employ legitimate entertainment journalists), then I would take what you hear with a huge grain of salt.

How Did the Rumor Start of Disney Firing Rachel Zegler?

From what I can tell, the rumor began when a Tik Tok user (named Wool&Rustle, it seems) claimed the actress (who the video deems as “unlikable”) was “fired” from Disney’s upcoming “Snow White” remake.  His Tik Tok video has garnered over 3.3 million views—so it’s pretty safe to say people are very interested in this hot button topic. Check out the video below.

Why Would Disney Want to Fire Rachel Zegler?

Well, if you haven’t heard by now, Rachel Zegler made some negative comments about the original “Snow White” film that rubbed many Disney fans the wrong way.

In an interview at D23, Rachel called the love story in the original Snow White “weird” because she believes the prince in the movie is a stalker.  Zegler then stated that her remake will be an entirely new adaption of the film’s story, and will move much of the focus away from Snow White’s quest for love.

“We have a different approach to what I’m sure a lot of people will assume is a love story just because we cast a guy in the movie,” Zegler  said at D23. “It’s really not about the love story at all, which is really, really wonderful.”

Many Disney fans were irate about this, becoming upset that the lead actress who stars in “Snow White” doesn’t have any love or appreciation for the original film her remake is based on.  Other fans resorted to the now outdated “Disney is Woke” argument as well.

Ever since then, it’s been an uphill battle for Zegler to win back die-hard Disney fans, which no doubt got the attention of Disney executives.  If Disney did fire Rachel Zegler from “Snow White,” there’s a strong chance that her comments (and honestly, the backlash of these comments) had a lot to do with it.

How Do We Know Rachel Zegler Wasn’t Fired?

Admittedly, we don’t know with absolute certainty that Rachel Zegler has not been fired by Disney.  However, when rumors like this pop up, I always like to look for two things to determine what’s true or false:

  1. Are any notable news outlets reporting this story as fact
  2. Has this story been confirmed or denied by Snopes

Since you already know that noteworthy outlets like Deadline and Variety are not reporting this story, I thought it would be wise to see what Snopes has to say about this alleged Rachel Zegler firing from “Snow White.”  Here’s what I found:

According to Snopes, Disney’s firing of Rachel Zegler is deemed “unfounded.”  Snopes is in the business of looking at information and rumor, researching it, and getting to the bottom of whether it has merit.  In the opinon of Snopes (who has a great track record), this rumor simply has no merit at the moment.

Does this mean Rachel Zegler was not fired?  No, it doesn’t.  It’s certainly possible that, within the next few weeks or months, it will be revealed that Rachel has indeed been let go by Disney.

But, as it stands now, it’s a bit unfair (and perhaps journalistically inappropriate) to claim that Rachel Zegler was fired without having or producing some level of legitimate source to substantiate the claim.
