The glitz and glamour of Hollywood. When you visit Hollywood Studios, you’ll experience all that the movies has to offer and more. That’s because this theme park has some of the best Disney World attractions for adults along with popular shows and restaurants.
Plus, starting in 2019, this park will be home to Star Wars Land, which is sure to bring exciting experiences to longtime Star Wars fans.
If you’re adult, the question is this (especially if you plan to travel without children): Is this the right theme park for you to spend your time and hard earned money in? Well, in this article, I’m going to contend that the Hollywood Studios just might be the best adult-friendly theme park in all of Disney World.
Hollywood Studios is home to some of the most popular thrill rides in the Disney Parks, like the Tower of Terror and Rock ‘n’ Roller Coaster. Adults who enjoy the thrill of high speeds and big drops will absolutely love these two attractions. And, they are definitely two of the most popular attractions for adults at Disney World for thrill seekers. If you want to go on these attractions, be sure to make Fastpass+ reservations in advance if you can or plan to go on them earlier in the day. Both of these attractions can have high wait times very quickly due to their popularity.
If thrill rides aren’t your speed, there are plenty of attractions in the park for adults to enjoy with a slower pace. The Great Movie Ride (sadly, another ride that has closed and will be replaced) was perfect for those who love classic movies and wanted to learn a bit more about old Hollywood.
Or, if you like 3D shows, check out Muppet Vision 3D. It’s one of the oldest attractions in the park and is perfect for those who want to experience a bit of the park’s history and nostalgia. For those who like shows, don’t miss out on the Indiana Jones Stunt Spectacular. It’s a neat way to see how movies stunts are made and a lot of fun.
New changes are coming to Disney’s Hollywood Studios too. Starting in 2019, Star Wars Land will be opening and will feature include new rides at Disney World. This new land alone makes it great for adults — especially those who grew up loving Star Wars and want to experience their childhood favorite as an adult.
Star Wars fans don’t have to wait for all of the attractions though. Star Tours is a classic Hollywood Studios attraction that will take you from Endor to Hoth as fast as light speed can take you. It even includes new destinations from the latest Star Wars films too.
When it comes to dining options, Hollywood Studios has some of the most unique restaurants on Disney property with creative theming and dining experiences. We think these are absolutely perfect for adults who want to experience a bit of nostalgia or want to enjoy fine dining.
Here are some of the most popular restaurants in the park that adults are sure to enjoy.
Hollywood Brown Derby: There’s no better restaurant to experience the glamour and glitz of old Hollywood than the Brown Derby. This signature dining restaurant is based on the original Hollywood Brown Derby restaurant in California. And, the theming is so good, you’d swear classic actors and actresses from the 1930s to walk by at any moment while you dine. It’s home to some of the most impressive theme park food and is home to the famous Cobb Salad. This restaurant is perfect for a romantic evening out with your significant other or a special occasion.
Sci-Fi Dine-In: If you want to visit a classic drive-in, you have to dine at Sci-Fi Dine-In. This restaurant makes you feel like you’re outside watching retro sci-fi movies and enjoying a bite to eat. Sci-Fi is a table service restaurant that features burgers, fries, and milkshakes — all perfect for the drive-in. And, you get to sit at tables that look like vintage cars. How cool is that? We love Sci-Fi Dine-In’s unique theme for a fun date night meal or a relaxed adults-only dinner. So, drive on into the Sci-Fi Dine-In for one out-of-this-world meal.
Mama Melrose: You’ll be saying, “That’s amore!” when you have lunch or dinner at Mama Melrose. This table service restaurant serves classic New York City style Italian food complete with pizza, pasta, and cannolis. This charming restaurant is a great spot for lunch or a cozy dinner. Ask for a booth in the back of the restaurant for a meal that’s a bit more quiet.
50s Prime Time Cafe: Go back in time to the 1950s when you eat at 50s Prime Time Cafe. This retro inspired table service restaurant will make you feel like you’re at home, having a home-cooked meal from mom. You can even watch a bit of 1950s television while you enjoy your meal. But, don’t leave your elbows on the table or forget to eat your vegetables. Your cousin (aka server) might not let you order dessert if you do!
ABC Commissary: For a quick service meal, stop by ABC Commissary. You’ll feel like you’re in a cafeteria at the movie studios. And, you just might expect to eat lunch with your favorite stars. This is a good spot for a quick bite to eat. At dinner, the restaurant serves fast casual fare like steak and fries or even salmon that’s more like table service without the prices.
When it comes to entertainment, Hollywood Studios is full of it. From lively cast members performing on the streets of the park to shows and impressive fireworks displays, there’s a lot for adults to enjoy. Hollywood Studios is the perfect park to explore and not feel rushed during your visit. Here are some of our must-do entertainment in the park.
Citizens of Hollywood: We absolutely love the “streetmosphere” found at Disney’s Hollywood Studios. The Citizens of Hollywood are an improv acting troupe that you’ll find roaming the streets of Hollywood Studios throughout the day. They’re not listed on any times guide, so make sure that you keep an eye out for them. They’re an attraction all to themselves and a not to be missed experience unique to Hollywood Studios.
Star Wars Launch Bay: Until the new Star Wars Land opens, guests who visit Hollywood Studios and love Star Wars will want to make sure they get to the Star Wars Launch Bay. Here you can watch a short film about the making of the latest Star Wars films, check out props from the movies, and even meet your favorite Star Wars characters like Chewbacca, Kylo Ren, and BB-8. There’s also an impressive gift shop with Star Wars collectibles too.
Fantasmic: This nightly show and fireworks is a must-do for anyone visiting Hollywood Studios. You’ll see the forces of good and evil battling it out in Mickey Mouse’s dream. And, it’s the perfect show for nostalgia for adults who grew up loving Disney animated classic.
For those who don’t want to worry about getting seats to this show, book a Fantasmic dining package where you can enjoy a leisurely meal and have reserved seating for the show. This is perfect for adults who want to see the show but don’t want to fuss with extra waiting in queues.
Fireworks Shows: Hollywood Studios has been introducing some new fireworks shows into the park, including Star Wars: A Galactic Spectacular Fireworks Show. For even better viewing? Why not book a Star Wars Dessert Party? It includes reserved seating for the show and is one sweet way to end the evening. And, adults will appreciate that the party includes alcoholic beverages too.
In addition to having thrill rides, excellent dining options, and unique shows, there’s a lot that Hollywood Studios has to offer. If being able to get to and from a park easily is important to you, you’ll love that Hollywood Studios is a quick boat ride or walk from any of the Epcot area resorts.
This is great for those who want to take a break mid-day or don’t want to have to worry about taking a bus back to your resort in the evening. Adults visiting Disney who are Star Wars fans will want to keep an eye out in the coming years too. There’s going to be a lot of changes coming to the park that will make it even popular for adults.
Overall, adults guests visiting Disney World will be impressed with Hollywood Studios. From thrill seekers to retro Hollywood lovers, there’s something for every adult touring plan style and preferences. Get your ride on with thrill rides or relive the nostalgia of old Hollywood. Either way, you’ll be able to fill up your whole day at Hollywood Studios enjoying shows and attractions that are entertaining and educational.
