Do you have a little boy who is absolutely in love with just about under the Disney umbrella?  Well, if so, get ready for my list of the fifteen best Disney characters for boys!  In this article, I share my top character picks that I think all boys will absolutely love and identify with (factoring in a character’s cool look, fighting ability and even their moral fiber).

Disney Characters for Boys That Are Great

Let’s begin with some Disney animated characters.

Flynn Rider (Eugene)

Flynn is one of my absolute favorite Disney princes of all time, and of course one of the best role models for young boys that you can find in this category! While his backstory and younger years certainly didn’t include the most legal of endeavors, Flynn was able to learn from his actions and, throughout the course of the first Tangled film and with the help of a near death experience, changed his ways and ultimately became one of the heroes of his story!

Flynn is typically available during the busy seasons for meet and greets in both United States parks (alongside Rapunzel), and he is so much fun to interact with!

Kristoff

While Kristoff‘s status of royalty is technically undetermined (Anna becomes queen of Arendelle at the end of Frozen II and it’s implied in that same project that they will be married) that certainly doesn’t mean that he is any less of a wonderful role model for young boys!

Kristoff is a very loyal friend to both Anna and Elsa, and while the cave trolls describe him as a bit of a “fixer upper”in the first film, he is shown a wonderful gentleman who has helped to save Arendelle on more than one occasion throughout the course of the franchise! As a bonus, Kristoff is an animal lover and has a best friend who just happens to be a reindeer named Sven!

Kristoff can occasionally be found for meet and greets in the United States Parks, however he is more commonly seen in parades and stage shows!

Olaf

Olaf is another character from the Frozen franchise, and he is loved by men and women both young and old! While he isn’t exactly human (but rather, a snowman who loves warm hugs!) we still happen to think he is a great character that young boys will absolutely adore for quite awhile!

Olaf is full of humor and trivia even in serious situations, which I’m sure the parents of young boys might find familiar too! He can also rearrange and detach several of his extremities, which of course makes him great to have around if you find yourself in a pickle!

Olaf is a fairly rare character, however he can be found unexpectedly in the Frozen themed meet and greets for both United States parks!

Dory

While we think Dory may be one of the most unexpected characters on this list, she is definitely one of the most positive characters that you can find in the entirety of the Disney franchise and we just absolutely love her!

Dory has some major memory problems just like most fish, but she is overwhelmingly inspirational both to her fellow fishy friends and to herself! She’s always encouraging, and we are fairly certain she would be smiling even if the sky is falling down!  Unfortunately, Dory is not available for meet and greets in any of the Disney parks!

Aladdin

Similarly to Flynn, who we mentioned earlier in this article, Aladdin didn’t start out with the most socially acceptable backstory, and actually found himself in prison on at least one occasion! While his journey takes him on quite a wild ride of deceit, chaos and genie wishes, Aladdin is able to overcome his somewhat negative history and transforms himself into the prince that every young boy dreams of being!

Instead of using his third wish to skirt around the rules and get what he wants, he chooses the moral route and instead is allowed to marry Jasmine due to his nobility and kindness displayed at the end of the film!

Aladdin can be found for meet and greets in both United States disney parks, And is typically either roaming around or spending time with Princess Jasmine!

Simba

While Simba isn’t technically a prince, we love him just the same! One of the things that makes Simba special for young boys is the fact that we get to watch him grow up through the story, and children are able to bond with this character as they watch the film! The Lion King is also a coming of age story that teaches kids to stand emotionally strong for what they believe in regardless of how physically strong they are!

Unfortunately, Simba is not currently available for meet and greets on any Disney properties, However if your child wants to see a live action version of him up close I would highly recommend checking out one of the showings of Tale of the Lion King at the Fantasyland theater in Disneyland!

Woody

Woody is everyone’s favorite cowboy who goes through struggles, emotions and feelings that many young boys may also find themselves facing as they grow older! Initially, Woody is anxious and feels like he is going to be replaced when Buzz Lightyear makes his appearance, which is a feeling that many young boys may face with the addition of younger siblings in their growing family!

Woody, however, is able to form a very strong bond with this new addition to the toy family, and they eventually find themselves working together and even helping other toys with their own problems! This is a great lesson for young boys, plus Woody of course has a knack for comedy, which makes him even more lovable!

Woody is available for meet and greets on occasion in both of the United States theme park properties!

Marvel Characters for Boys

What little boy doesn’t absolutely love superhero movies? Here are my Marvel character picks!

Captain America

Steve Rogers is an absolute staple of the Marvel universe and of course is loved by just about everyone, but he is especially loved by  young boys! His origin story is nothing short of inspirational, and Captain America is arguably one of the most well-known superheroes in any superhero franchise!

He has saved the day on so many occasions, and does his best to do what’s right for the people that he loves! Steve truly is a phenomenal role model to younger kiddos both in the franchise and here in the real world, and little boys are sure to love him due to his kind heart and soft nature!

Steve is currently available for meet and greets in avengers campus in DCA, located in Anaheim, California!

Iron Man

Tony Stark is another one of those infinitely lovable characters that is absolutely loved by anyone and everyone that’s a fan of superhero films! Little boys are particularly drawn to Iron Man because of his sassy and witty personality that is sure to cause laughter among everyone watching!

Tony is also one of the characters that has appeared in the franchise the most since the first film released in 2008, allowing little boys to watch films involving Iron Man for over a decade as they grow up and age here in the real world! It’s always great when our favorite characters “grow up“ right alongside of us!

Tony is available for meet and greets in Avengers Campus located at DCA in Anaheim, California!

Spider-Man

Just like the other two characters we’ve mentioned in this category, Spider-Man is an insanely popular Marvel character who has been on the big screen for decades! It would be difficult to find a little boy born after the early 2000s who has not loved (or at the very least seen) a Spider-Man film, and there’s just something about this character that makes little boys absolutely obsessed!

Perhaps it’s his kind and charming personality (or the fact that there’s insects involved) but whatever the reason might be, Spider-Man is a truly phenomenal character and is well deserving of the love from children everywhere!

Your friendly neighborhood Spider-Man is available for meet and greets in Avengers Campus located at DCA in Anaheim, California, and we highly recommend this meet and greet as well as the ride that is associated with the character!

T’Challa

It’s amazing to think that T’Challa was a character that most of the world never really knew existed before 2016.  That’s how underutilized the character was in Marvel properties (from comics to cartoons), and how poorly promoted he was as a character.

And then “Captain America: Civil War” dropped (and of course “Black Panther” a couple years later), and this lesser known character suddenly became one of the best characters in the entire Marvel Cinematic Universe.

T’Challa is a strong, intelligent leader that’s also a capable fighter and has a great moral compass. What more can you really ask for when it comes to excellent Marvel characters for boys?!

Star Wars

Let’s now move onto Star Wars characters.

Darth Vader

We know, we know! Darth Vader is technically considered the villain in the franchise, but that certainly doesn’t mean that little boys can’t absolutely love the character! What little boy hasn’t gone through a “Darth Vader phase“ in which they don the outfit and torture members of their family with the infamous sounds of lightsabers and the character’s breathing sounds for days on end?

I have fond memories of my brother’s love for this character from the ages of about four years old all the way up to today, which spans nearly 15 years! Needless to say, Darth Vader is a staple for little boys all over the world!

Darth Vader is available for meet and greets in both United States theme parks, and we have to admit it’s one of our favorites!

Han Solo

Harrison Ford is responsible for several of the most beloved characters by little boys all over the world (Indiana Jones gets an honorable mention for sure!) and Han Solo is of course no different!

He has traveled the galaxy on more than one occasion and is of course one of the most legendary pilots in the entire franchise, with the millennium falcon arguably being the most iconic ship that he has piloted! Just like Darth Vader, there is something about this character that draws in little boys and we are sure that your little boy will absolutely love Han Solo!

Unfortunately, this character is not available for meet and greets at this time in either of the United States theme parks!

Luke Skywalker

Of course, it’s impossible to bring up anything Star Wars and not talk about the main character from this original trilogy.  Star Wars changed the game when it came to movies when it was released in 1977, and a large part of that is thanks to Luke Skywalker.

A boy from humble beginnings who went on the become a Jedi and vanquish an evil empire—all with an awesome laser sword in his hand?  I mean, what’s not to love here?!  If you’re looking for Star Wars characters for boys that they’ll absolutely love, you’re probably not going to do a whole lot better than Luke.

Lando

Pop culture hasn’t exactly been very diverse historically, so Lando was more than a big deal for little black boys.  The reality is, if you were a black boy in the late 1970s or early 1980s, you pretty much only had Shaft to admire in the realm of black hero representation in film and pop culture.

And if you were a black boy that loved sci-fi—yikes, forget about it.  You had nothing.  No one looked like you.  And when no one looks like you, you tend to feel a bit distant and less engaged and excited with the end product.

So when Lando came on the scene in the Star Wars world, it was a revelation to black kids everywhere.  And not only was Lando a great character, but he was smooth, cool, and highly capable.  He’s easily one of the best black characters for boys ever made.
